Volunteer Opportunities

We believe that volunteers are an integral part of our organization.  With such a broad network of community leaders, emerging activists, and ethnic groups, volunteering with Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Chicago is a great way to deepen your understanding about Asian American communities, advocate for their rights, and lead meaningful change. For 20 years, our mission has been to empower the Asian American community through advocacy, by utilizing education, research, and coalition building.  We invite you to join us.

Organizing

Story Collection
As part of Advancing Justice-Chicago's larger campaign for Comprehensive Immigration Reform, we are launching an Immigration Story Collection Project. We’re looking for volunteers to capture great stories and/or share their own. Someone who listens well and will use their creativity to help us build a cache of compelling narratives to use in our advocacy work.


Communications

Media Database - To aid with organizing photos and media clips, creating a searchable media database, and tracking Advancing Justice-Chicago's media hits.  Someone with strong organizational abilities and a creative and thoughtful in approach to collecting media.  Any experience with archiving is a bonus!

Graphic Design - To create designs, concepts, and sample layouts for our various program needs (i.e. flyers, t-shirt designs, etc.)  Someone creative and well-organized who is looking to practice their design skills.

Special Events Coverage - To cover photo/video at Advancing Justice-Chicago's special events and develop short videos for our website, YouTube page, and social media channels.  Someone with multi-media capabilities including: shooting/editing video and photography.  We’re looking for folks with experience in developing advocacy multi-media and a creative and thoughtful approach to designing media projects and ways to showcase them.


Advocacy

Community Advocate
Engage policy makers to educate them on specific issues and urge them to take action through legislative visits, phone banking, or e-mail/letter writing.  Help raise greater community awareness and help recruit others for advocacy campaign!  We are looking for folks with a willingness to learn about the issues facing Asian American community  and take action on their behalf.

Attend our Annual Advocacy Day & Rally on May 23, 2013 in Springfield!


Education

Researcher
Help us identify the issues of the dynamic Asian American community, capture their stories, and advocate on their behalf.  Researchers will work on specific projects and collaborate with the staff to educate the community on their findings.  Experience working with demographic and Census data is strongly encouraged.
