This January, Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago is pleased to host two new interns who will be working with us for the next few months. Let’s get to know Theanne Liu and Jireh Kang, both of Northwestern University (Go Wildcats!):
Theanne Liu (left):
I am a senior at Northwestern University majoring in Communication Studies and Political Science, with a minor in Asian American Studies. I’m excited to be joining Advancing Justice | Chicago this year as a communications intern after being able to attend the 2013 and 2014 Asian American Leadership Forums. At school, I serve as one of the co-presidents of the Asian Pacific American Coalition, an AAPI sociopolitical organization. I’m incredibly interested in the possibilities of new media activism through alternative news and storytelling in social movements, as well as Asian American media production and representation, which I will be exploring in my senior thesis on Asian American television shows and web series. In my spare time, I love to binge-watch television shows and explore the never-ending world of makeup (and also cry about its toll on my wallet).
Jireh Kang (right):
I am a senior majoring in Communication Studies and International Studies at Northwestern University. At school, I am involved in InterVarsity and Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Studies. At Advancing Justice – Chicago, I partake in civic engagement work and in organizing Asian American Leadership Forum. In my free time, I love watching mind-blowing or heartwarming movies/tv shows and going on adventures.
