The decision to terminate the TPS designation for nearly 200,000 Salvadoran immigrants who have lived in America for decades is another gross misuse of power from this administration. Ending temporary status and work authorization for Salvadorans turns more than 190,000 U.S. residents into undocumented immigrants and has the potential to upend the lives of their American-born children.

Asian Americans Advancing Justice (Advancing Justice) is extremely disappointed with today’s passage by both the House and Senate of  H.R.1 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which is expected to be signed by the President.

Congress must not cave to White House pressure to trade passage of a legislative solution for undocumented youth in exchange for supporting its white nativist agenda of building a border wall, more immigration enforcement, ending the family-based immigration system, and slashing the annual number of immigrants that receive green cards

This ban is among many policies this administration has advanced that discriminate on the basis of national origin, faith, and immigration status and targets immigrants and communities of color.

The decision to terminate the TPS designation for Haiti is yet another in a long line of attacks on immigrant communities. Stripping more than 55,000 Haitians of temporary status and work authorization will result in family separation and hardship and benefits no one.
