I Speak Power

I Speak Power (ISP) is an immigrant and refugee civic leadership program integrated into adult English as a Second Language classes at partner sites. Advancing Justice | Chicago facilitates an empowering curriculum that builds English and civic literacy for those most often directly affected by immigration and language access issues.

In 2019, nearly one hundred I Speak Power participants will lead their communities in campaigns to Get Out the Vote and participate in the 2020 Census.

I Speak Power partners serve immigrant communities in the West Ridge, Uptown, and Bridgeport neighborhoods of Chicago.

About

I Speak Power leaders are powerful spokespeople for the issues that affect their families and communities. They have shared their testimonies at Asian American Action Day, in meetings with legislators, and at the first annual Grassroots Leaders Assembly.

From Our Leaders

"We understand that language barriers affect our community’s ability to access the services that we need. We believe that our language ability should not be viewed as a flaw but a strength."
