On behalf of the Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago Board of Directors, I am delighted to officially announce to all of you that, effective June 30, 2018, the new Executive Director for Advancing Justice | Chicago will be Andy Kang!

For seven years, Andy has led the legal department here at Advancing Justice | Chicago. We as a Board of Directors continue to be thoroughly invested in the organization’s success and in continuing the incredible momentum that Advancing Justice | Chicago has had under outgoing Executive Director Tuyet Le. We look forward to continuing our work with Andy, the staff, and our growing number of grassroots leaders to advance justice.

Our board thanks you all for your support and patience as we completed this lengthy process. As we recognize Tuyet’s leadership in the coming days, we will also be celebrating Andy and the future!

A message from Tuyet Le

Congratulations to Andy! I could not be more excited to hand the reins over to him. I am confident that Andy’s combined vision and compassion for our community will bring about even greater success for this organization. While leaving has caused a wide variety of emotions, I have been comforted by my complete trust in Andy’s leadership, and the talents and determination of this amazing staff and board. Deepest gratitude to the board members for all their hard work throughout the Executive Director search process.

A note from incoming executive director Andy Kang

It is an honor to be named the new Executive Director of Advancing Justice | Chicago. As a child of Korean immigrants, and as someone who grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, our work is deeply personal to me. For the last seven years, I have had the privilege of working under the fearless leadership of Tuyet Le, alongside an amazing team that shares a relentless commitment to fighting for our communities.

As Executive Director, I look forward to building upon the successes that Advancing Justice | Chicago has achieved with its many community partners and grassroots leaders, such as passing Automatic Voter Registration and the Illinois TRUST Act into law last year. These landmark victories were possible by working together as Asian Americans, Chicagoans, Illinoisans, immigrants, people of color, and allies in the struggle for racial justice.

Our work to resist harmful white nationalist policies, protect our democracy, and advance justice for all is far from over, but I know that we are up for the challenge. As the incoming Executive Director of Advancing Justice | Chicago, I am committed to building a powerful Asian American voice for racial equity throughout the Midwest. Thank you for your support on this journey, and I look forward to working with you all.
