Sarah Tomas-Lemna

Community Organizer

Sarah Tomas-Lemna (she/her) is a Community Organizer at Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago.

Sarah leverages her social work training to build power toward racial justice. Before joining Advancing Justice, Sarah was a leader with A Just Chi and Asian American Midwest Progressives. She completed graduate social work placements with the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services and the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.

Before coming to Chicago, Sarah worked for 3 years to build leadership of youth and families with refugee status in Kansas City. She was a leader in organizing BIPOC staff for racial equity in her workplace in 2020. She also mobilized social work students in the fight for paid placements in 2022 and college students in the 2016 election.

As a multiracial Filipina American/Pinay from the Midwest, Sarah has helped to elect progressive candidates in Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois. In addition to organizing, she spends time reading and thinking about multiraciality and mental health among Asian Americans.
